Zodiac Signs

The signs of the zodiac are traditionally represented by specific symbols used in astrology to identify each individual sign. Few people have actually thought about the origin of these symbols, let alone their hidden meaning. Here, we will attempt to provide a brief characterization of each zodiac symbol. I hope that after reading this text, most people will be able to understand their meaning and easily identify their astrological sign in any horoscope.

Aries

Recognizing the Aries symbol is the easiest, as it genuinely closely resembles the horns of a ram. In the esoteric interpretation of the Aries sign, which is located at the very beginning of the zodiac circle, it is presented as a ‘big bang’ that creates matter. Indeed, the Aries symbol looks exactly like an icon depicting an explosion. Furthermore, this interpretation perfectly matches the naturally fiery temperament of the representatives of this sign.

Taurus

Traditionally, the Taurus symbol resembles a bull’s head with horns on top. Esoterically, this imagery presents a combination of the circle (the sign of Earth) and the semicircle (the sign of the Moon), which symbolize the creation of matter and space. It is no coincidence that the sign of Taurus governs creation and the accumulation of material wealth.

Gemini

Two curved lines joined together represent the symbol of the Gemini sign. This combination of the images of two Moons looking in opposite directions suggests the splitting of matter into two parts. Such an internal division of the human soul into two often manifests in the lives of Gemini representatives, appearing both as inner spiritual torment and in external behaviors.

Cancer

On the symbol of the Cancer sign, we see two closed semicircles creating a single ring between them. Some consider the Cancer symbol to be a symbolic representation of the female breast (semicircle), which undoubtedly corresponds to the feminine nature of this sign. From an esoteric point of view, such a coiled spiral corresponds to the female egg cell (ovum), which also does not contradict the nature of the Cancer sign.

Leo

There are several popular interpretations of the Leo symbol. Some may present it in the form of two heart valves, as the sign of Leo is ruled by the heart. One can also find descriptions of this symbol as a lion’s mane. From the standpoint of human esoteric development, the Leo symbol is an depiction of a sperm cell. This reflects not only the masculine nature of the sign, but also the human capacity and potential to reproduce offspring.

Virgo

This symbol resembles a scorpion (a stylized letter ‘M’), except instead of the tail pointing outward, it curves inward, as if sucking in the energy of life. The main esoteric task of Virgo consists of structuring the surrounding space. It cannot be said that this is a purely feminine sign, although, undoubtedly, women by their very nature are better at managing this task. This stage of life’s development corresponds to the biblical sixth day of creation, when man appeared and began to master the space, giving names and titles to everything created by the Creator.

Libra

Sometimes the symbol of the Libra sign is compared to actual weighing scales. However, in the traditional representation, the symbol of Libra appears in the form of a setting sun. In contrast to the sign of Aries, Libra marks a symbolic boundary between the first (physical) and the second (spiritual) part of the Zodiac. This is precisely why the main karmic task of Libra is to bring a sense of harmony and beauty into this world, to find the fine line of the beautiful, and to introduce its standards into life.

Scorpio

This symbol resembles the sign of Virgo, but its ‘tail’ points outward. Esoterically, Scorpios act as energy generators and, unlike Virgos, they do not take energy but rather give it to the outside world. However, in truth, this is not the most accurate representation of the sign. Even more so, Scorpio is characterized by the same depiction, but with the ‘tail’ turned toward itself. It is within this self-torment that the entire natural strength of the Scorpio representatives is contained.

Sagittarius

A simple, memorable symbol that resembles an arrow. In an esoteric sense, this is an arrow burning away all of a person’s karmic ‘tails’. It is no coincidence that Sagittarius itself is depicted as a centaur moving forward but shooting his bow behind himself. In this way, he releases man from the weight of the past, freeing him from responsibility. In return, he provides the letter of the law which, like an arrow, cuts through past chaos and gives man a vector for further development.

Capricorn

Perhaps the most unusual of the group of signs, this symbol can be viewed as the curved horns of a goat. However, the roots of such a representation of the Capricorn sign should be sought in the ancient symbolic depiction of this sign as a goat with a fish tail. This imagery originally appeared in ancient Sumer and belonged to the creator god named Enki, whose symbol was also a fish. It is precisely in the sign of Capricorn that the perfection of matter takes place. And it is here that man can manifest and test his character.

Aquarius

This symbol resembles waves in the ocean, which perfectly characterizes the elemental nature of the Aquarius sign representatives. In an esoteric sense, the two waves in the sign of Aquarius symbolize living and dead water. However, this is once again a debatable claim. The point is that the most ancient symbols of the Aquarius sign depict a man (or a god) pouring water from two jars onto a fish. Symbolically, this can signify the emergence of intellect, or to be more precise, the instillation of reason into an unreasoning creature. Moreover, the management of such a person’s consciousness streams is granted to the higher intellect. It is no coincidence that many representatives of the Aquarius sign are naturally brilliant people. However, explaining their talents using simple logic is simply impossible.

Pisces

This symbol represents two fish (two semicircles) joined together. However, these are two completely different fish swimming in entirely opposite directions. Such is the nature of the representatives of this sign. They can either swim with the flow, accepting and agreeing with everything that life gives them, or rush forward, moving against the current and stopping at no obstacles. Esoterically, the two fish-semicircles, connected to each other by a thin ribbon, symbolize the completion of the life cycle. It is no coincidence that this sign is considered the sign of death and transition into the next world.
