Trade and economy

Bulgaria has an open economy with a large manufacturing sector and has achieved a significant increase in income over the past two decades. A stable macroeconomic framework and deepening European integration have paved the way for entry into the euro area. Serious structural reforms to increase productivity, speed up the process of catching up incomes with EU averages and addressing social challenges have led to low unemployment and rising wages. The main economic sectors in the country are services (68% of GDP), industry (28% of GDP), agriculture (5% of GDP). Also, Bulgaria is rich in natural resources such as – gold, iron, lead, uranium, copper, zinc, kaolin, rock salt and many others.
